Designer Series: Mid-Century Chic Interior with @savagehouse1970
To say that we fell in love with Laura’s mid-century modern style would be an understatement! Staying true to her style roots, she and her husband purchased a 70’s home and decided to make it true to the era with functional vintage style pieces. The look of her home ties together perfectly and when asked how she does it she said her secrets include exploring estate sales, not being afraid to thrift and collect, and surrounding yourself with like-minded individual who help you style and share your love for design. Laura expertly blends a mix of wood, pops of color, shapely accents and furniture, clean lines, and natural elements. Her love of vibrant rugs and wall art is also key to tying a space together. We were ecstatic when she agreed to join us in our studio for a day and share her take on our furniture.
The Plan
Laura picked a mid-century style sofa for a chic living room design, and a marble top dining table as a neutral base for an eclectic, groovy-inspired space.
The Prep
The room designs were a blend of in-store furniture accents, studio props, and Laura’s own accent décor to execute these looks.
Room #2: Francisco Dining Table & James Chairs
For the dining space, Laura said she wanted this look to be less as a dining room and more of a meeting and gathering area – which we thought was very cool. The Francisco (marble top) Table in White and James Chairs in Mocha (faux) Leather look great together – another reason why mixing and matching works. We’d never considered that dining table to have a min-century vibe, but it certainly fell exactly into Laura’s esthetic vision. Her inspiration for this room was the use of the Noguchi-inspired paper lamp. She loved the size/shape and how it centers/balances out the entire room. She laid down the foundation by using the Sonoma Rug in Ivory & Blue which ties in the look. The wooden wall art was brought in by her friend John and we loved the complexity of the off balanced piece. She topped off the look by using a blend of fresh and faux plants.
