Measure, Measure, Measure!

One of the most common mistakes people make when buying new furniture is not preparing before heading down to the furniture store by measuring the space the new furniture will go into. Taking just a few minutes with a tape measure in your home can save you from hassle and headache during delivery and possibly from years of living with the wrong proportions in your room.

Measure Your Entry To Your Home

In order to enjoy you new furniture selection, you have to get it into your home. While this seems obvious, there is a huge percentage of new furniture buyers who are surprised when they can't get their purchase into the room.

Start with the outside of your home and any stairs, gates or other obstacles that may hinder moving through the front door. Then, measure the front door and entry way. If there are tight interior stairs or banisters that could block your furniture from getting to your room, take the dimensions with you to the showroom to find out if the furniture you picked is not right for you.

Measure The Room

The same goes for the room itself. It makes a huge difference in the years of enjoying your new furniture when you have purchased a set that is designed for the size and shape of the room. You might find new and interesting furniture combinations while shopping that may or may not work for the room you have in mind. Having the measurements will help you decide.

Measure The Furniture

Next, measure the furniture you have selected. Don't worry if you didn't bring along a tape measure to the showroom. Ask the sales staff for some help. That's what they're there for!
