Home/Mor Furniture Blog/Kids/What Size and Kind of Bed Should I Get For My Child?

When choosing the right bed size for your child, consider your child’s height when standing and the height they are likely to grow to in the next year or so. Also, how well can they climb and maneuver around furniture. Watching how they play in an outdoor playground, or their behavior, is a good way to see how ready they are for elevated furniture.

4th Grade and Middle School

Most children have a growth spurt right around this age, which can make choosing a kid’s bed difficult. A loft bed or bunk beds are popular bed size choices for kids measuring 50” and taller. If going with a loft bed, be sure to factor in under the bed headroom, or if want to use that space to create a place for your child to lounge.

Bunks Beds and Beyond

The same considerations hold true for bunks beds, which come in varying heights. They also come in two size configurations: twin-over-twin and twin-over-full. Some bunk beds come in a twin-over-full-over-trundle. If you have children sharing a room, or just what to give your child the space for sleepovers, bunk beds are a fun and practical option. The standard weight limit for bunk beds is approximately 164 pounds, but you should always check the manufacturer’s guidelines to be sure before you purchase one.

Teenagers and Young Adults

Choosing a bed for a teenager is similar to choosing a bed for an adult. You should look for a bed that is comfortable, regardless of the size. While the size is a matter of preference and room space, the style and design is another matter. No doubt your teen will have some thought about what type of bed they want. Take into consideration their personal preference, and do they need extra storage. If so, a storage bed may be the perfect choice for your teen.
