How to Better Utilize Space in Your Dining Room
- Use a server for holding extra plates and bowls of food while you are eating instead of crowding the table. This allows guests convenient access to seconds, without the annoyance of passing hot plates over each other or playing Tetris with your dishes.
- Use a buffet and hutch to display your china and fine dish wear, instead of using precious counter-top space. This allows you to use the counters for items you will be accessing the most often, whereas your “special occasion only” dishes stay visible, but out of the way.
- Perhaps the most valuable thing you can do is to invest in a dining room table with leaves. One leaf can make a noticeable difference, and two will completely change the way you use your dining room. You can store the extra leaves when you don’t have company over and greatly increase the extra space in your dining room, and when guests are over you can easily extend the table to make room for everyone.
- Trade-in two of your bulky dining room chairs for a space-saving bench. This is an excellent update to any dining room, and the bench is a great way to increase the room at your table. It is especially handy during holidays to seat the kids, who can easily sit three to the one bench – whereas your chairs can only seat two.
