Designer Series: A Journey Into Soulful Design with @trecismithdesigns
Treci Smith's venture into the world of interior design began with a deep-seated love for design. Her passion truly flourished when she had her children and found herself personalizing and designing their rooms. This creative endeavor quickly caught the attention of her family and friends, who began requesting her assistance with their own spaces. Her knack for finding unique and vintage pieces became a defining feature of her design approach, ultimately inspiring her to open her own vintage retail space. Through this venture, she combines her love for shopping, hunting, curating, and repurposing unique items.
In preparation for her partnership with Mor Furniture, Treci visited the Miramar store to immerse herself in what the brand has to offer. She focused her attention on designing an office space and bedroom, aiming to highlight the versatility and charm of Mor Furniture's selection of furniture and accents.
The Plan & Prep
To style two products and bring both designs to life, a combination of in-store furniture accents, studio props, and select accent décor pieces were carefully curated by Treci.
Room #2: Charm & Functionality
More is More
Treci's approach to designing a bedroom is deeply rooted in understanding her client's personality. For a recent project, she designed a space for her daughter, prioritizing elements that reflect her character. Whether the client is a college student with a creative streak or someone who loves to read, Treci ensures that the bedroom becomes a sanctuary that mirrors their personality. She picked the Gavin Upholstered Bed for its color, shape, texture, and functions – it has the option as an adjustable foundation base – all of which contribute to its unique charm and functionality.
One of Treci's favorite design tricks is repurposing existing furniture. For instance, transforming an old TV cabinet into stylish shoe storage with a fresh coat of paint showcases how reimagining the purpose of a piece can enhance both aesthetics and functionality. In this space, Treci paired the bed with the Astral Accent Cabinet and Salida Nightstands for a worn-out wood vintage vibe. For extra relaxation, she pulled the Amy Accent Chairs as the perfect textured pieces.
Tips on Personal Style
For those looking to makeover a space on a budget, Treci recommends exploring thrift stores, flea markets, estate sales, garage sales, and antique malls. These places often hide valuable gems that can transform a space without breaking the bank.
For first-time renovators or re-designers, Treci advises taking your time. Living in the space to understand its functionality is crucial before making aesthetic changes. Creating a comfortable, soulful, and beautiful space is a process that reflects personal expression and should not be rushed.
Treci’s journey and philosophy in interior design are a testament to her passion for creating personalized, functional, and soulful spaces that resonate with the individuals who inhabit them. Her home office and bedroom designs exemplify her ability to blend practicality with beauty, making every space she designs truly special.
