Syllis Cawker, originally from Brazil, embarked on a journey to California in 1994, driven by the allure of the California dream. After immersing herself in the vibrant culture of San Diego, she pursued her passion for interior design at the Design Institute of San Diego, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts & Interior Design degree. Her career took her to Miami, where she honed her skills in a prominent architecture firm before returning to her beloved San Diego.
In 2018, Syllis established Casa Contour Interior Design, formerly known as Creative Interiors by Syllis, offering comprehensive design, build, and furnish services across San Diego. With a keen eye for detail and a commitment to creating unique spaces, Syllis and her dedicated team have transformed countless homes into personalized havens.
The Plan & Prep
To style two products and bring both designs to life, a combination of in-store furniture accents, studio props, and select accent décor pieces were carefully curated by Syllis.
Room #1: Finding Comfort in Natural Elements
The Result:
Syllis' approach to design is rooted in her deep appreciation for natural elements and timeless elegance. For the bedroom design, she curated a space around the Cagney Upholstered Panel Bed in Gray that features a light-colored wood with an upholstered headboard and convenient shelving at the footboard for storage, aiming for a comfortable, functional yet sophisticated feel. She added the matching Cagney Nightstand and Dresser for yet even more storage, and the Amy Accent Chair for warmth and casual seating. She chose the neutral-inspired Essentials Rug to lay out the balance of the space.
Her passion lies in integrating unique architectural features with modern furnishings, creating spaces that reflect the individuality of her clients. Syllis styled the empty wall behind the dresser using various wall art with differing heights creating a high-low effect. This is a great example of personalizing your space using personal photos mixed in with art pieces and décor that are meaningful and special. In this space, she aimed to create a cozy retreat conducive to relaxation and restful sleep, inspired by the "comfy vibe.”
Room #2: Timeless Charm
Her affinity for natural fibers and organic materials is evident in her work, often incorporating raw oak wood, linen, and cotton into her designs. Syllis finds inspiration in the simplicity and warmth of these materials, infusing her projects with a sense of timeless charm. She advises clients to keep their spaces simple yet inviting, with an emphasis on comfort and functionality.
Syllis’ chosen piece for the living room, the Monica Sofas in Gray, exemplifies ergonomic design and timeless elegance, fitting seamlessly into any decor style. When designing living rooms, Syllis prioritizes comfort and durability, recommending comfortable seating with durable fabrics featuring the Pasadena Accent Chair and functional coffee tables such as the Burgess Coffee Table with a narrow style and lower shelf for added storage. She believes in adding pops of color through vibrant pillows and artwork with the Brockham Wall Art, complemented by ample lighting for a welcoming atmosphere.
