Home/Mor Furniture Blog/Designer Series/Designer Series: The Effortless Style of Suhohouse

Designer Series:The Effortless Style of Suhohouse

When you think of San Diego you would think of the sun, beach, and the laid-back atmosphere. What if you could harness that into your home? We were thrilled to have Sarah Suhonen of @suhohouse into our studio for another #DesignerSeries sesh. Her effortless design can make you feel like you’re living by the beach without being near the water. While getting to know her we found out this mother of two rents out her aesthetically pleasing home for filming and photo shoots. She also works as a voice coach, so you know her melodic talents contribute to her tastes in design. Sarah’s style is a combination of boho with modern twists that can effortlessly blend the room’s elements together to create a carefree design that we love.

The Plan

We have given Sarah the challenge of designing both a living room set and a bedroom set. Let’s see how she did!

The Prep

Style using a combination of Mor Furniture accents, studio props and Sarah's very own personal accent decor pieces.

Set #1: Catamaran Sofa

The first set Sarah designed was the Catamaran Sofa in Coconut Stone. Oh, my, goodness! We are in love with how easy and breezy this design feels in the studio. The Catamaran collection is part of our custom order line where you choose your configuration, fabric color, accent pillow color and the only limit is your imagination. This room called for accent décor to be styled around the neutral Catamaran sofa, and the Louise Accent Chairs in Sherpa White proved to be the key pieces in this living room space. The deep brown wood is the perfect contrast against the room’s gray and white tones. She filled the sofa with welcoming comfy pillows that would beckon anyone to rest against them.

While sitting upon the Granada Rug in Boho Ivory, the Salida Coffee Table makes a great centerpiece as its low-profile structure has a casual vibe with succulent and book accents completing the laid-back look. It’s the added accents that we find so pleasing in this room design; more green succulents and copper mugs on the Kailman Bar Cart in Gold, and the Diedrick Lantern Set nesting on the Salida End Table carry this room into a scenic atmosphere of rustic modern bliss.

We adore the driftwood branch sitting atop the Astral 3 Door Accent Cabinet in Gray Wash accented with the Taylen Wall Art perfectly perched up on the wall. The Pancho Bull Wall Art with its simple yet neutral design fills the centered wall adding further to the Southwest style feel. Sarah’s initial plan was to go the boho-modern route, however during the design process the room morphed into a desert palette style perfect for an Airbnb/vacation home or any inspired living room space. This goes to show that it’s okay for the concept of the room to change throughout the decorating process. We find it’s better to experiment and adapt to change than to force a concept. Sarah expertly maneuvered herself throughout the studio to create a completely new concept that’s even better than what was planned.

Set #2: Calloway Panel Queen Bed

Ooh la la! Sarah’s bedroom style is contemporary meets casual in this dreamy mix of Parisian-neutral-boho style. When we saw this space, we couldn’t stop thinking about how amazing this room feels to be in. The soft muted colors of the grays and whites in the Calloway Panel Queen Bed in Gray transport you to a warm Sunday morning with a cup of tea that carry your worries away. The subtle pink pop of color from the Janah Pillow and the blanket, break up the room from the muted whites and grays in a unique way that doesn’t take away from the focus of the room. The Bay Creek Nightstands in White sitting next to the bed keep the focus on the bed while also contributing symmetry to the space. The Jamon Table Lamps add size and texture to the neutral-based nightstand tabletops.

Sarah’s addition of subtle greens on the Decker End Table in White complimenting the room with organic elements for a well-balanced space. She added the Bay Creek Dresser in White as a standalone piece but shines as an ensemble with the two white matching nightstands for a cohesive look. She places the gold-painted candle holders on the Jocelyn Tray and paired them with neutral accent Jolina Boxes in Gray for an elegant arrangement strategically placed on top of the dresser styled as a console. Lastly, the Mink Rug in Ivory is a perfect finish for this dream paradise. The fluffy texture gives the room a floating feel that carries us away.
