Designer Series: Functional, Modern, and Organic with Lisa Hu @lisahuhome

Interior design was an unexpected career for Lisa Hu. With a background in technical recruiting, Lisa ventured into interior design after buying her first house with her husband. She wanted to decorate it to reflect their personalities. In her quest to make their home uniquely theirs, she found a passion for design.

Lisa was excited by how timeless and high-quality Mor’s pieces are. “They make for really great staple pieces where you can just switch up the décor to change up the look.”

The Process:

Lisa’s design approach when transforming a living room starts with determining the function of the space. “When thinking of function, I would ask: ‘Is this a space where you want to gather a lot of people to have conversations?’ If so, I would arrange a lot of seating, like a sectional, accent chairs, and maybe a loveseat.” She would then determine a color palette for the room and work from there.

The Design

Lisa chose the Emillia Sofa as her main piece for its modern shape and beautiful neutral brown shade. She notes that it makes a great base for lots of interior styles such as mid-century modern, modern organic, and transitional.

The Result:

In choosing accent pieces, Lisa incorporated parts of her personal style. As a nature lover, she added plenty of greenery and organic neutral colors. She took inspiration from Japandi style design by adding the Sanya Accent Chair with its modern look and light wood accents. Her use of light neutrals makes her final room design feel airy and serene, yet still grounded by the Emillia’s earthy leather.

Lisa mixed textures by choosing the Kira Coffee Table and its smooth marble top to sit on the Comfort Shag Rug. She completed her room design with the Calisa Throw Pillows and Cashall Wall Art to brighten up the room.

Extra design tips from Lisa:

1.        Use décor that is both functional and decorative. For example, she keeps her less-pretty essentials like her TV remote inside a beautiful travertine box on her coffee table.

2.        Mix high end furniture and affordable décor. Because décor is easier to swap out, Lisa notes that high quality furniture like the Emillia Sofa will last longer and be a better investment.
