Home/Mor Furniture Blog/Designer Series/Designer Series: Unapologetically Boho with Boho on a Budget

Designer Series: Unapologetically Boho with Boho on a Budget

The moment we laid our eyes on Jordan “Jordy” Miranda’s Instagram feed, we knew we had to work with her. Her aesthetically pleasing and meticulously curated feed filled with minimal styling, shapely interior décor pieces and lots of plants had us wanting her to bring this look into our studio. Jordy is a San Diego-based interior designer, an Airbnb property owner, and a real estate agent. With her extensive experience in both the housing and interior design fields, we thought we could learn a thing or two on how to be her. However, we only had one day with Jordy in the studio so instead, we focused on her signature boho look tied in with her appropriately named Instagram handle @boho_onabudget on how to pull off an effortless Bohemian style interior without all the fuss and rules.

The Plan

Jordy showcases her signature look with two of our modern-centric pieces.

The Prep

Style each piece with in-store furniture accents and studio props combined with Jordy's own accent decor.

Set #1: Bay Creek Panel Bed

The Result:

The Bay Creek Arch Panel Bed styled by Jordy

See The Products:

The first piece Jordy styled is the Bay Creek Panel Bed in White. This bed is part of the Bay Creek bedroom collection featuring different types of bed frame styles and colors to choose from. Here, Jordy went heavy on mixing and layering. She dressed the bed in all-white bedding while contrasting the all-neutral palette with large and lush brown toned accent pillows. Jordy paired the bed with a large boho inspired shaggy rug complete with fun tassels and added a couple of light oak nightstands for balance. For finishing touches she added a beautiful low profile wicker accent chair, a rattan bench at the foot of the bed, and most importantly plants! – hanging plants chicly placed on top of the headboard and a giant leafy fiddly fig only to remind us to water our own plants.

A major design tip we learned from Jordy? “It’s ok to take risks and mix woods,” she boasts, “It’s ok to mix and match darker woods with lighter woods.” Bohemian style has a reputation for having an unruly and unapologetic approach to design due to its playful nature. Jordy continues, “I think a lot of people think that you have to stick with the same types of woods and the same colors and not mix. It’s risky to mix them but that’s what ultimately makes the space.”

Set #2: Draper Sofa

The Result:

While the first look was fully Boho-inspired, Jordy decided to go with a fusion Bohemian-Scandinavian look with the second piece featuring the Draper Sofa in Gray. Also available in brown, the Draper is a mid-century styled sofa with sleek lines, tapered wooden legs, and a low-profile design. It’s a beautiful modern piece for spaces that compliment a minimalistic tone in allowing the main furniture take center stage.

Jordy’s first order of business? Add maaad pillows. Jordy did not shy away from breaking the all-gray sofa by adding a ton of chunky yet soft accent pillows. She stayed on the neutral course with beige tones and texture. Next, she paired the sofa with customer-favorite accents featuring the Sonoma Rug in Chocolate and Red 5x8 and the Decker Coffee Table in Brown. She incorporated these pieces to add contrast and versatility into a neutral canvas with the Draper sofa. Finished off the look with a wicker accent chair, a wooden accent ladder, a boho-fied pouf, an oak-framed wall art piece and as always beautiful full plants for a pop of green. Fun fact: it took Jordy less than 30 minutes to style this entire room. A true #DesignerSeries inspiration.
